Do differences between liberals and conservatives boil down to one thinking broadly and the other locally?

For example, I live in a red county in a red state; I'm in the middle of a cornfield full of people who care more about what is near them than what is "out there." However, I do care about the world because I don't think any one area is better than another. The fact that I am here, doesn't make me think my area deserves more passion than any other. So, I have observed that Midwestern and Southern social conservatives live in a worldview where physical proximity is connected to their idea of the self. Whereas, progressives think more broadly on the basis of understanding interconnectedness. We don't think in terms of "us vs. them." We believe in equality because there really is no "other." That's just a figment of our imagination; there is only US but conservatives don't understand that and refuse to accept it.
