Why do people tip at restaurants?

SO tired of this question. You are not forced to eat at restaurants where tips are expected, nor are you obligated to tip at all if the service is sub par, but most restaurants do not pay servers even minimum wage and so that's where the tip comes in. If you resent tipping for excellent service, stay home. Simple.
