Is it legal to keep a Brown-Headed Cowbird as a pet?

I was watching a bird's nest for a while, there was an American Goldfinch and a Brown-Headed Cowbird in the nest. This nest was a result of brood parasitism, from the Cowbird. The two birds hatched and I began observing them. Already there was a HUGE size difference between the two babies. Anyways, three days after they hatched, and went to go check on them. The nest was empty (and destroyed). On the ground was the two baby birds. I immediately took the baby birds inside, and put them in my brooder/incubator. The Cowbird was eating perfectly and growing. The American Goldfinch was not healthy. Before I could take him to a rehabber, he died (two days after I took him in). Now I have been handfeeding the cowbird for almost a week, and starting to wean him. I am experienced bird keeper... So he is in the best of care. I have some other birds, and they are now bonded with him as well! I am just wondering, is it legal to keep a Brown-Headed Cowbird as a pet (because of the brood parasitism, many people are prejudiced against them... and even kill them! Is the gov't more lenient about permits with these birds?) If I needed a permit, in Canada, which one would I get? Thanks in advance!

Healthy alternatives when eating fast food?

So lately I've been thinking about trying to be as healthy as possible over the summer. While I don't always eat out or at fast food places, I know that every once and a while, or when I'm with friends getting lunch, I'll probably go somewhere like that. I was just wondering about some healthier alternatives at common fast food places... like Starbucks or Taco Bell or something. I always lean towards Subway because I have this certain sandwich that I make, which has a good amount of calories, hits all of the food groups, and doesn't have too much bad stuff. I mean, its probably not the healthiest thing in the world, but its better than a double double extra large cheeseburger with a giant milkshake! Who should I file compliant with regarding apartment complex in Ohio?

We moved into an apartment complex in Beachwood Ohio. I went there to see the apartment two weeks ago and everything looked good and decided to move in. After moving in during the night I was hearing some sound (like an air condition is on - bigger than air condition sound) and couldn't sleep whole night. I tried seeing if our air condition is on and if that's causing sound. Everything was off. Apparently there is some other sound coming from outside. Couldn't sleep whole night until it was off sometime in the morning at 5am or so. Next day morning I tried observing and found that its from the outside went which is from the air condition for the entire floor. Its right outside my apartment. When I called and told to apartment complex, they said they cant do anything about it as the floor needs air conditioning. But I asked them why didnt they tell me when I came here to rent an apartment and I cannot sleep at all even if there is a small sound. They are trying to offer that they will stop it during the night and sometimes they are turning it off, sometimes they are not. I can't stand waiting until my period. I feel so weird. Today I took a nap because I felt so tired. Then when I got up out of bed I barely made it to the restroom b/c I was sooooo dizzy. Is it legal to keep a Brown-Headed Cowbird as a pet?

I was watching a bird's nest for a while, there was an American Goldfinch and a Brown-Headed Cowbird in the nest. This nest was a result of brood parasitism, from the Cowbird. The two birds hatched and I began observing them. Already there was a HUGE size difference between the two babies. Anyways, three days after they hatched, and went to go check on them. The nest was empty (and destroyed). On the ground was the two baby birds. I immediately took the baby birds inside, and put them in my brooder/incubator. The Cowbird was eating perfectly and growing. The American Goldfinch was not healthy. Before I could take him to a rehabber, he died (two days after I took him in). Now I have been handfeeding the cowbird for almost a week, and starting to wean him. I am experienced bird keeper... So he is in the best of care. I have some other birds, and they are now bonded with him as well! I am just wondering, is it legal to keep a Brown-Headed Cowbird as a pet (because of the brood parasitism, many people are prejudiced against them... and even kill them! Is the gov't more lenient about permits with these birds?) If I needed a permit, in Canada, which one would I get? Thanks in advance!

Can not eating for 3 or more days affect your heart and cause other health issues?

I am a diabetic on insulin to control high levels I also have a enlarged heart and recently had a positive stress test and two catherizations I take 3x daily beta blockers and take on occasion nitro.I recently ran into a money issue and can not buy,or barrow,or beg for any food nor can I barrow money I know no one,I have nothing to sell or pawn,.Literally I can not do anything about food for five more days and I'm scared with my health issues. I've tried everything you can think of to get some food DHS, food banks,churches etc no luck.In the past 5 days I have ate once a dollar McDonald's cheeseburger that's all. My mom is a personal trainer. When I lived with my parents, I was in perfect shape. i used to go to the gym every day and work out, play sports, etc. Well, I left for college, and now, I have stretch marks EVERYWHERE and have gained 42.6 pounds. :( I can't motivate my self to lose the weight...I can get myself motivated for a day, but when I wake up in the morning, I just forget and eat something bad. I haven't hung out with any friends from the dorms or from high school in a year....I've heard from my twin sister (who is still in good shape) that they all ask if I'm pregnant or just fat when she hangs out with them. I don't want to see anyone until I'm looking good again!! ....but it is taking so long ....its been about a year since I have seen anyone but my boyfriend & occasionally my sister or my dad. I know my friends will always love me no matter what i look like and i shouldn't think this way, but i am just so embarrassed. I don't have any clothes that fit me anymore either!!!! i don't want to go shopping until i can fit in my usual sizes. I am a poor college kid struggling to survive--the last thing i want to do is spend a bunch of money on clothes and then lose weight and not be able to fit in them! I used to be so fashionable--now i only wear shorts and t-shirts and use the fact that I work with animals as an excuse. I have a gym membership. My apartment even had a 24 hour fitness center.....but I don't go anymore. I spend all day before work looking in the mirror and being sad instead of working out :(. the worst part is, i KNOW the fat will come off very easily!!! A few months ago, I lost about 20lbs, but then my car broke down and I couldn't get to the gym. It was FREEZING outside, so i didn't want to run....I kept saying i would just start working out again when my car was fixed, but by that time (months later), I had gained all of the weight back. My boyfriend is one of those people that can eat ANYTHING (i.e. 10 large pizzas with double cheeseburgers on top .....7 times a day!!!! [obviously an exaggeration haha]) and won't gain anything!!! He never works out at all either. EVER. I always ask him if he will work out and eat right with me, but he's like "HA, YEAA RIGHT!" ....i know i shouldn't need him to do this with me to feel motivated, but its so hard watching him eat stuff that looks so good haha, or making two seperate meals all the time, or going to the gym alone when i would rather spend time with him. I would gently try to bring it up to the mother (or father if you don't have a choice) and voice your concerns. Don't scare them or anything, but tell them you are concerned about his language development and the fact that he does not play with toys, the tantrums, etc. Suggest that they run it by his pediatrician. Why can't I gain weight?

I drink like 3 glasses of milk a day which is 420 calories alone...I can eat 3 western bacon cheeseburgers with extra bacon, chug down a 2 liter bottle of soda, and eat a whole bag of doritos, and I won't gain a f*cking pound what the hell! I'm like 6'3 and I weigh less than girls my age, and yet I probably eat more than a lot of guys. I also don't exercise much. Not saying that I'm proud of all this, but I find it weird how people won't eat some foods because it has too much fat or calories, and yet I can eat all the fried food and won't put on any weight at all. :( It gets annoying when people think I'm a p*ssy or weak just cause I look anorexic and it's not my fault. Boys often eat a ton because we are building muscle which takes energy (which is given off by the burning of calories) eat as much as you want (as long as its HEALTHY chocolate and chips and I'm afraid to say McDonalds won't cut it) but doing it isn't all really hard core you CAN indulge one or twice every couple of weeks as long as you don't let it become 2 or 3 times a week. Doing an ab circuit or weighted sit ups/ crunches should work your upper abs. And a tree trunk (twisting your abs while holding a weighted ball) will work your lower abs. Good luck

As we all prayed (about 2,000 people) so it was one person presiding, but anyways, during the prayer my eye's were closed, and while I was listening. I felt my butt hit a concrete sidewalk. I opened my eye's and I was physically somewhere else. I was sitting on the side walk next to a very tall tan sky scraper, and there were two people playing around, which in the instance I got the notion that they were my friends and they were about five feet away from where i was sitting. One of the kids was an African-American, and the other Asian-American, both looked about early 20's. I am only 15 right now. But I when I was there I felt the warmth of the sun and the drift of the wind. I could feel the concrete under my but and heels. The two kids mentioned before, the black one took the asian ones' hat and the asian was jumping and trying to get it back. they were just playing around and laughing. they both spoke english. and dressed how I do now. The african was wearing a backpack. and I noticed that we were in a big city. nobody else was there and I didn'tt talk to anyone. I had this overwhelming feeling of suprise so i didn't say anything, but the experience only lasted about 5 seconds this is all i remember. But I would like to know if anyone knows what this means. thank you, and I wanted to remind you that i WAS physically there It was not a dream and it didnt feel anything like it. P.S. when I came back to the prayer and into my same seat. I had the feeling of being moved, i was not moving but i was being moved back into my seat.

How Do I Build My Confidence Back Up ?

One thing that may help is to look at this site regarding self esteem and relationships. Next you need to talk to the police and report the fact that this kid assaulted you and took your credit cards because they may be able to catch him and that will make you feel safer. Before you take the dog out at night, look at your window and if he is there call the police and they can catch him and send him to prison where he belongs. I think as you raise your self esteem it will help you a lot and give you more confidence and you may not be as afraid to go out. I knew a man once years ago with no confidence that was always robbed every week when he would cash his pay check because you could see his lack of confidence in the way he walked. Another person I knew walked the same way, the same distance but was never bothered because he had that confidence and it showed in the way he walked and talked. Another thing you can do is to find a martial arts studio near you and learn some basic self defense moves and that will give you confidence as well because you will be able to kick the crap out of anyone who bothers you. My puppy won't stand up and is lethargic... what's going on?

My puppy is 10 months old and he is pretty active. However, just this evening, he started acting very odd. He looked rather depressed, despite the fact that all day today he was happy. He couldn't climb up the stairs, where he was perched on the middle step. He wouldn't stand up when we interacted with him, and when we helped him up, he could barely stand properly on his back legs. He didn't yelp, whine, or act aggressive in any way. He had his tail between his legs but he could stand on his own. He refused to walk or go outside, and as soon as he was up, he lay back down, acting depressed again. We felt his tummy, looked at his gums, and felt the rest of his body for any other signs of trauma or swelling. His muscles around his abdomen and leg area were somewhat tense, which caused us to look at signs of bloat. He does not seem to have that. In fact, he seemed to have a good appetite, eating his food and drinking some water. We suspect that he has a muscle injury, but we are unsure, as he does not act as if he is in pain, other than the fact that he looks very depressed with his tail between his legs. He will not straighten his hind legs all the way when we massage the seemingly injured area. Is this a muscle injury, or is it something else? Should he be taken to the veterinarian, or just observed and rested for awhile?

Okay, so. I've had a UTI for close to two weeks now. The most it's done is give me strongly scented urine and a little bit of an itch. I use an extra sharp cheddar cheese and place on top of one paty, lay another patty on top of that and seal the two together. Cheese will melt in the middle and make a very gooey cheese burger. Help! How do I train my rats to let me get them into their leash?

the right leash helps! I have 6 rats (and one recently passed) and 6 of them tolerate leashes. We use a figure-8 style harness/leash from Four Paws (as seen here: a href="http://www.pettravelcenter.com/products/detail/568/37)" rel="nofollow"http://www.pettravelcenter.com/products/…/a I like this leash because it can adjust down small enough to put a baby rat on (I had a 150 gram 5-week old on one) and they lock, so there is very little size change when the harness is scratched at. I put them on tight enough that they can't get their elbows out - don't unhook it, just slide the loops bigger and smaller. Tighten around the ribs, then around the neck. Once you have your harness on, make sure you leave it for at least 20 minutes to get them used to it, and try to use it regularly, so it's not a big deal. Good luck!

I'm not obese or fat, but I'm still chubby and I'm an adult too. Every time I watch an advertisement on television with a good as heck lookin pizza or burrito or some brand of chips that looks really good, I immediately want it and have to go get it. K, I'm not a homophobe. Seems like the gay marriage issue has been in the news a lot more in the past few years. I have a strict policy with myself that I do not take a stand on any political or social issue until I feel like I understand it. I won't accept the Lady Gaga answer of "I was born this way", if homosexuals are born this way, why? Maybe some are born with it, and maybe others develop it later in life, I don't know, I'm completely in the blank on the issue. Honestly, I doubt there is anybody who really understands what it is. The thing that confuses me about homosexuality is its place in the world from an evolutionary perspective. I know homosexuality has been observed in several species, but if a species adapts over time to increase its likelihood of reproducing (some of those adaptations being quite subtle) why would so many individuals outright reject reproduction altogether, and mate with the same sex? Isn't that counterproductive to the biological purpose of life? I'm not trying to argue against homosexuality, I'm just writing down my thoughts and hoping someone can enlighten me. I know it is frowned upon to suggest that homosexuality could be a disorder, but if it is natural, as the gay rights groups suggest, what is its evolutionary role?

Yes, that was definantly a migraine. I get them and are followed by doctors. I went what you went through so they put me on a daily medication called Kepra. I'm on 3000 mg a day and get about 1-2 headaches month now! They are difinantly heridiery. My dad gets them and so does my cousin who is actually my age. They can also reoccure. If it does within 24 hours of it going away, its the same headache. I find that alleve or motrin work well along with lots of water or gatorade-gatorade for the electrolytes. (Which helps headaches) also sodium -chips pretzels saltines- can help. These headaches aren't fun, but atleasy 90 percent of americas popultaion get atleast one once. Feel better! Keep me posted!

I know homosexuality has been observed in several species, but if a species adapts over time to increase its likelihood of reproducing (some of those adaptations being quite subtle) why would so many individuals outright reject reproduction altogether, and mate with the same sex? Isn't that counterproductive to the biological purpose of life? I'm not trying to argue against homosexuality, I'm just writing down my thoughts and hoping someone can enlighten me. My mom buys those packs of frozen burgers from Sams Club, and I eat alot of them, sometimes two a day (mostly in summer due to the grill). It's just such an easy snack to prepare because I also use a George Foreman grill when in a pinch, it it can go from frozen to on a bun in 5 minutes flat. For a snack, I'll have a cheeseburger, and for dinner maybe 2 on a good day. I just made one now for a midnight-snack & I almost cried while eating it. I'm afraid I'm going to have a heart attack. I'm 6' 0", 180lbs, so I'm very average for my age/height, & I'm skinny, I'm just afraid my body cannot take any more of them. My parents are always at work so there's not much food around & like I said they're so easy to prepare it's hard saying no. In the past 3 months I'd say I've consumed around 35 (don't laugh because I'm being completely serious). I am very active & ride alot of mountain bike offroad on trails. Do you guys think I'll be alright if I slow it down on them? Thanks guys. I'm just going to try to eat better from now on.

i had a baby a few months ago, and i need to loose about 25lbs...before this week i was drinking 3 or 4 cokes aday...eating a croissant with cheese for breakfast. Cookies...chips for snacks and then cheeseburgers for lunch then meat and veggies for dinner....i somehow was not gaining weight...but i sure was not loosing it. Well starting this week, i only drink water. For breakfast i have either a smoothie or cherrios with skim milk...then a snack like yogert or healthy granola bar...then for lunch a wheat pita wrap with turkey in it..no cheese..then another healthy snack, and then a normal dinner...usually some meat with 2 veggies......how does that sound, and how much weight will i will able to drop?
